Under the Localism Act, a community can come together and plan what will happen in their area. On Camley Street the residents and businesses have formed the Camley Street Neighbourhood Forum and we are busy developing our plan. Part of our vision is to make Camley Street the greenest street in Central London by integrating agriculture, manufacturing and digital technology together.

To achieve this we will continue to expand the food growing areas on Camley Street interweaving it around and over the manufacturing units. We also believe we can develop real jobs tending these areas with enough income being generated by selling the produce to self-fund the jobs. This food growing enterprise we have named Camley Street Farm

What is for sale today has be grown or been produced from things grown on Camley Street and the income generated will pay for Saturday jobs that have tended and developed the produce.

Second YourShout Public Exhibition

The owners of 101 and 102 Camley Street have engaged public reations company Your Shout to present their development proposals for the two sites at a second public exhibition on:

  • Tuesday 10 June at the Frank Barnes School for Deaf Children,
    105 Camley Street, London N1C 4PF

    • 4:15pm to 6:45pm = exhibition
    • 7:00pm to 8:00pm = Q&A session

You should receive a YourShout Exhibition Invitation Leaflet telling you about this in the next few days.

Your Shout tell us that members of the development team will be there to answer any
questions and talk through the detailed proposals.  They also plan to hold a Q and A session straight after the public exhibition at 7pm until 8pm.

We’ll be very interested to see and hear how they have responded to our comments and concerns from their first exhibition on 6 March our comments and concerns from their first exhibition on 6 March.

Planning Application – to fell 2 trees

Planning application 2014/3400/T
This application is to fell 2 x Norway Maple that are covered by a Tree Protection Order. The trees are at the rear of 65-77 Rossendale Way and adjacent to 11 Ploughmans Close (co-ordinates Easting 529523 Northing 183940).  The reason the trees need to be removed is that they are growing too close to 11 Ploughmans Close and their roots are beginning to disturb the foundations around the house and their upper branches are touching and damaging the roof.  There really is no other option other than to remove them.
Once the ground has rested the EV Garden Society has said it will plant a couple of trees that are more appropriate for the space.

Annual General Meeting 2014

Our AGM on Thursday was attended by about thirty-five members and all three of our Camden Councillors: Cllr Sumata Khatoon, Cllr Peter Brayshaw and Cllr Roger Robinson.

We were also pleased to welcome Jasper Cuppiage of Camden Brewery  who told us about his ambition to move Camden Brewerys company headquarters to Camley Street with 45 jobs and the latest technology in brewing.Camden Town Brewery logo

Jasper also presented two posters showing an artists impression of their proposed development of 102 Camley Street and some of the history of Camden Brewery since it brewed its first pint in 2010.

David Powell (resident member) gave un update on the forum’s progress and achievements so far:

  • Creating the forum and getting us recognised by Camden Council
  • Lobbying to get the HS1/HS2 link cancelled
  • Creating a green agenda for Camley Street
  • Work so far on our neighboyurhood plan and shaping the future development of Camley street.

This was followed by the election of the committee.  Thirteen individuals volunteered to join the managing committee and were elected (seven members who live in the Camley Street area and six individuals who work here). They are:
Chair: David Powell (Resident), Secretary: Peter McGinty (Resident), Treasurer: John Hayes (Daily Fish). Members: Ahmed Waza (Richmond Laundries), Alex Smith (Alara), Christian Spencer-Davies (Amodels), David Royston-Lee (Resident), Farra Pedley (Resident), Kay Lacey (Resident), Marrio Raggio (IMS of Smithfield), Paul Matthew (Fashshot), Richard Cotton (Resident), Valerie Barnett (Resident).

  1. Identifying Neighbourhood Hotspots
  2. Establishing our Environmental Principles and Priorities
  3. Camden Brewery as an alternative development for 102 Camley Street.
