Free Compost at the Camley Street Compost Hub

As part of our green mission for Camley Street we’ve arranged a supply of FREE COMPOST for your garden.

Just come along to 110 Camley Street and you’ll see the compost hub signposted.  And if you can’t see the signposts just look for the huge pile of compost on the verge next to Alara Wholefoods.

Take as much as you want, whenever you want. All that we ask is that you leave the place tidy and don’t make to much noise (with all the excitement of endless free compost) while you’re loading up.

The compost is manufactures from re-cycled food and garden waste by London Waste and they deliver it in 15 tonne loads whener supplies get low so no need to worry about taking that extra spadefull.

  1. When is the free compost available? I have never seen any there (camley street compost hub). Are there only certain days when it is delivered? I would be grateful for any information about the compost and if there are any other sites in London where it is available?

    • It’s intended that compost is there for the taking every day of the week and every week of the year.
At busy times of the year though there can be a ‘rush’ and the compost runs out before the next delivery arrives. So if the compost hub is empty, then just look again a few days later and it should have been replenished.

  2. Today I walked a considerable distance armed with shoping trolley to collect compost and see the ‘farm’. What I found was a derelict site with nothing on the signage to indicate closure or re-location. It’s sad this is now derelict but a post on the site to indicate it’s closure would save others a wasted journey.

    • The compost hub has been very popular over the past few weeks and ran-out at the weekend. Just waiting for the next delivery of 15 cubic meters of compost from London Waste to arrive.
And the Camley Street Farm? Sorry you had a wasted journey but it’s definitely still there. Just walk along the short access road between Bookers and Alara and it’s there.

  3. Hello, I would like to know if this compost hub is still working and if there is any compost there right now. We want to go and collect some but we wouldn’t like to go all the way there just to find it empty or closed. Are there opening times? Thanks a lot!

      • Hi there, I was thinking about popping by tonight for some compost. Could you let me know if that delivery has arrived yet? Thanks a lot!

        • Hi Julia – compost is restocked at regular intervals but it can sometimes go quickly (a nice warm weekend really gets things moving) so it’s just a matter of turn up and see.

  4. Borrowing a motor tomorrow to hopefully collect some much needed compost.
Any updates as to current wealth of compost available?
    Any indication appreciated.
